This year cases of COVID-19 are increasing in most parts of the country, and we are also seeing high numbers of other winter illnesses.

For the start of Term 3, 2022, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health strongly recommend that all schools and kura amend their mask policy for the first four weeks of term to require mask wearing in all indoor settings (where it will not have a significant impact on teaching and learning – see below) for students in Years 4 and above.

This recommendation does not include any situation where mask wearing might not be practicable, such as while eating and drinking, playing certain musical instruments, indoor sport, where it will have a significant impact on teaching and learning (for example, students with particular learning needs), certain activities such as singing or drama performance on stage, and PE. In these situations, particular attention should be paid to ensuring there is good ventilation during the activity, and physical distancing where practicable.
Wearing masks can reduce new cases of the virus by as much as 53%. It works alongside other measures including vaccination, good ventilation, staying home when sick, and handwashing and other hygiene measures, to protect our students and staff.

Keep up healthy habits – Unite Against COVID-19
Adult-sized masks can generally be adjusted to fit older children by tying knots in the ear loops. Unite Against COVID-19 shows how to do this:

How to wear a face mask safely – Unite Against COVID-19
We know that that some of our tamariki/ākonga are exempt from wearing a mask. If they have an exemption card or a letter from their health provider, or we have agreed that mask wearing is not practicable for them, we will support them to not wear a mask.

Apply for a face mask exemption pass – Unite Against COVID-19
Please make sure that tamariki/ākonga come to school ready to wear masks. Students should bring masks from home, alternatively the school has a large supply and are able to provide your child with a mask.
Thank you for your support in protecting our school community.

Noho ora mai,
Whaea Lanea

www.facebook.com/groups/575252172533180/permalink/5577328455658835/

Covid-19 Safety Plan - Orange Level

http://sda.rotorua.school.nz/covid-19-updates/covid-19-safety-plan-orange-level

http://sda.rotorua.school.nz/covid-19-updates/covid-19-safety-plan-orange-level#comments

Covid Guidelines

Covid Information

Covid Orange Level

rotorua_sda_school_covid-19-orange_safety-plan_july_2022__1_.pdfFile Size: 1274 kbFile Type: pdfDownload File [...]

<img src="//www.weebly.com/weebly/images/file_icons/pdf.png" width="36" height="36" style="float: left; We anticipate that there will be more in the coming days.
Some anxiety around this is understandable and I would like to reassure you that we are doing everything at Rotorua SDA School that we can to mitigate the risks to provide a safe environment for your children to learn in. Parents will be notified if there is a confirmed case in the class when/if it happens.
-We have 2 known positive student cases who are isolating at home.
- We have 9 household contacts of a positive case who are isolating at home. Many thanks to the parents who are keeping us informed about this. Please continue to do so.
Please notify us if you are choosing to keep your children at home so that we can record them appropriately on the attendance system and so that we can check in with you if need be.
It is the Ministry of Education’s expectation that students who do not have Covid are to be at school. (Children must still come to school if they are well.)
We are as usual doing our utmost best to keep our students and teachers safe while at school but we need your help too...
- Please do not send your child to school if they have any symptoms.
- Masks and the correct wearing of them by all Year 4 - 6 teachers and students are mandatory and teachers (and students) in Y1-3 are also encouraged to do so. Masks do not need to be worn whilst outside.
- All staff and parents are reminded regularly to follow the public health guidelines.
- Cleaning procedures are in place.
-Ventilation procedures are in place
-Regularly getting outside, as preferable once every hour.
Hybrid Learning
Students who are confirmed cases and their household contacts will have access to online activities. Teachers will communicate this to you and please email them if you are unsure about where to access this.
Once again, if you have any concerns about sending your child to school, please do get in touch. We are here to help.
Once your child has completed 10 days isolation there is no requirement from the school to view any test results. All students are welcome back to school after the 10 day isolation period and we look forward to having them back onsite with us.
Kind regards
Whaea Lanea Strickland
Principal

https://www.facebook.com/groups/575252172533180/permalink/5177369482321403/

Request a RATS Test

http://sda.rotorua.school.nz/covid-19-updates/request-a-rats-test

http://sda.rotorua.school.nz/covid-19-updates/request-a-rats-test#comments

Covid Information

With the fast moving Omicron variant we understand there is a need for RAT (rapid antigen tests) for our school whanau and the wider Rotorua community.
